How KYS Works

How Know Yourself (KYS) Works

Most of life's problems don't come from believing the wrong thing. They come from not knowing what we believe and impact of those beliefs on our life.

Know Yourself helps you see what you really believe, understand what it's doing to your life, and change what no longer works, in your career, relationships, health, finances and every other part of your life.

How It Comes Together for You

The model behind how people think, decide and change.

Know Yourself is not a collection of quizzes. It is built on a complete model of how people think, decide, and change, set out in two books.

Understanding the problem

The Fault Line Model: Understanding the problem

Every person runs on a belief system: what you believe about yourself, about others, and about how the world works. It filters every experience you have and shapes every decision you make.

Over time, that belief system can drift away from reality without you noticing. What you say you believe and what you actually act on quietly stop matching. Most people only discover the gap once it has already cost them something: a relationship, a career move, their health.

The Fault Line Model explains how this happens, for individuals and for the organisations they belong to.

The solution

[Book 1A title]: The solution

If the problem is that you can't see your own beliefs, the solution starts with focusing on what is within your control. You can't control other people or the world around you. You can control how you read your situation, what you believe, and how you act on it.

The next book explains the parts of that which you can work on:

  • Your Core Belief is made up of three parts, and the balance between them shapes how you see everything.
  • Five aspects affect your state every day: what you take in through your senses; your vitality, energy, and focus; your lifestyle; the people and environment around you; and your actions, impressions and triggers.
  • Your moment-to-moment responses: meaning your emotions, triggers, thoughts, intentions, and behaviour, are where old beliefs show up and where new ones get built.
  • Every choice carries a reward, a risk, and a consequence. No option is ever free. The only real question is which cost you choose to accept.

KYS: the solution in action

The books explain the model. KYS turns it into tools you can use every day.

Tools that turn the model into everyday practice.

Journaling

When something happens, record it in seconds: which part of your life it touched, who was involved, what triggered it, what you felt, thought, intended, and did. You choose from ready-made options, so it stays quick and honest. There is also space to write in your own words, and KYS never reads that space.

Exercises

Real-life scenarios with real choices. KYS doesn't ask you to describe yourself. It asks what you would actually do.

  • Concept exercises look at the core of how you work, such as what you truly believe, who and what really comes first for you, and how you balance your own needs against your value to others.
  • Life domain exercises go deep into one area of your life at a time, such as Self, Health, Purpose, and Relationships, with more on the way.
  • Five Aspects exercises look at the everyday factors shaping your state.

You repeat each exercise every few months, so you see not just where you stand but which way you are moving.

And more to come

New exercises and tools are added regularly as the model grows.

See Understand Check Change

One system, across your whole life. The same belief system can show up across career, relationships, health, finances and everything else.
01

See

Exercises reveal what you believe and prioritise, which is often different from what you'd say if asked.

02

Understand

Journaling shows those beliefs at work in your daily life. Over time, patterns appear: the triggers that keep pulling you off course, the people and situations that bring out your best, the parts of your life that get less attention than you think.

03

Check

When what you say in an exercise and what you do day to day don't match, KYS shows you the gap. Feedback adds how others see you.

04

Change

With each return to an exercise, you reflect on what has changed, compare your answers, and see which direction you're moving in. You keep what works and let go of what doesn't. Repeated practice turns conscious effort into how you naturally think.

05

Across your whole life

The same belief system runs your career, your relationships, your health, your finances, and everything else. Change it in one place and you often see it in others.

Built to Make Itself Unnecessary

With awareness, practise consciously until it becomes who you are.

The goal

KYS is not something to depend on. It is a way to train yourself.

Think about learning to swim. First you learn to float and to hold your breath. Then you learn to move your arms and legs together. For many people, that's enough: they can swim, and they never think about floating again because their body simply knows how.

Some people want more. They learn different strokes and build speed or endurance. The basics are no longer something they practise; they are the ground everything new is built on. A few go further still and become professionals, where the smallest details of technique get attention. Even there, each refinement is practised consciously only until the body takes it over.

Learn consciously Start with the basics.
Practise repeatedly Build skill through repetition.
Make it natural Let awareness become part of how you think.

KYS works the same way. At first you need the tools to see what you believe, notice your patterns, and practise responding differently. With enough practice, that awareness becomes natural. You no longer need a tool to catch a trigger you've already learned to recognise, or to question a belief you've already updated. It has become part of how you think.

When that happens, KYS steps back on that problem, and you build on it. There is always a next level if you want it, because knowing yourself is not a course you finish. It's a lifelong practice, and each stage stands on what you've already made your own.

What KYS Won't Do

It shows you more clearly. You decide what to do with it.

It won't tell you what to believe. It shows you what you believe, and you decide.

It won't promise to change your circumstances. It works on what is within your control: how you read, decide, and act.

It won't be a quick fix. It takes honest effort and regular practice.

It won't keep you hooked. The goal is for you to need it less, not more.

Your information stays yours.

Everything you share stays private. Your results are shown only to you.

Your next step

Know yourself. Then decide.
